Asian / Chinese / Mandarin / Japanese / Arabic Ballots
SIMS Software (and the underlying database Microsoft SQL Server) supports all ‘character’ based language (English, French, German, Spanish, etc), which does not extend over to Asian/Chinese/Mandarin/Japanese/Arabic symbol/pictogram languages natively. SIMS 2000 can not copy-n-paste in native language Asian/Chinese/Japanese characters. Solution: Use images, copy-n-paste any image. Please see file attached, shows a great example of 1 image, and 1 hedonic without visual labels at the hedonic level.
Our sensory software product SIMS is already currently being used by Asian clients. Please seeAsian/Chinese/Mandarin/Japanese/Arabic Language Ballots examples: http://www.sensorycomputersystems.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=86
The Image file method is pretty simple and easy and works. Example: Use a Chinese enabled PC, word editor such as Microsoft Word, type in the Chinese symbols representing the question, use a Screen Capture program, such as SnagIt or similar, and make an image file, crop as needed. Lay the image into your SIMS questionnaire, then underneath lay a Line scale, or Hedonic, or All That Apply, etc. And very similar to Hedonic Scales for Children smiley face scales: http://www.sims2000.com/sample4children.asp
We do not have the silver bullet solution for Asian/Chinese/Japanese Ballots to support native language copy & paste labels of scales. We believe the image solution works pretty good for both Children smileys and histogram languages, both are being used by other clients as needed. It works and the desired results are being achieved.
Technical note: SIMS is not capable of emulating the word processor functionality for native entry of Asian/Chinese/Japanese language labeling, and the SQL database structure and management logic under Microsoft SQL Datase Server.
Try the images method. It works.
