New PC, Database Connectivity

Installation: If you haven't done so already, please install SIMS 2000 on your new colleague's PC, or new Panelist PC. Do you have a recent CD handy? We could also send you the latest CD, or our web download/update is also available. During the Setup on the 1st screen please tell SIMS 2000 the name of your Database server, if you do not know the name of the server please contact your IT staff and/or the support group at Sensory Compter Systems may also know the name. This information can also be specificed later. If you are near a PC with SIMS 2000 already running fine it's pretty easy to check proper database names and/or other site specifics.

ODBC Settings

It should be a fairly easy task to properly POINT your new PC's desktop SIMS 2000 application to your SQL database server.

In your SIMS 2000 application, look at SIMS 2000 Main Menu top menu | Utilities | Database Connection. More than likely you’re using general MS ODBC settings, so next press button [ODBC Administrator], see System tab, the SIMS 2000 entry, change the server name as needed, then go back into SIMS 2000 press [Test Connection].

Note: If SIMS 2000 [Test Connection] fails to make the connection the first time, your DBA person may need to look at the new server's settings, including if a login was created for SIMS 2000, SIMSDBO.

Note: 32-bit ODBC on 64-bit PC -- %windir%\sysWOW64\ODBCAD32.exe, the 32-bit version

FAQ, ODBC Connection Not Working?

Use the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) for the server name.

-- Example, Your SQL server name may be: SQLPRODUCTION

-- Try using your corporate FQDN , such as: SQLPRODUCTION.corp.us.net

Test the connection directly in ODBC 32-bit Administrator.

-- See Print screen shown below.

-- Check the option for [X] Connect to SQL Server to obtain default settings.

-- Login ID: SIMSDBO
-- Password: SIMSDBO

-- Click [Next] button.
-- Success is if you can get to the next screen error free!
